Friday, June 30th: Declarations and Harmonies

Join the city of Southport on June 30th as it rings in Independence Day festivities with a Welcoming Ceremony at 6:00 pm on the historic Fort Johnston Lawn. The evening continues with the reverent Reading of The Declaration of Independence at 6:15 pm, paying homage to our nation's foundational principles.

As the day draws to a close, the Fort Johnston Lawn will come alive with the melodies of The Coastal Harmonies and Sea Notes Singers at 6:30 pm. Bring your favorite seating and immerse yourself in an evening filled with patriotic songs and community camaraderie.

Saturday, July 1st: Day Full of Festivities

Kick off the month with various fun-filled activities in Oak Island and Southport. Begin with the friendly Beach Day Horseshoe Tournament in Oak Island's Middleton Park, then appreciate local talents at the Summer Regional Art Show in Southport's Franklin Square Gallery. 

Back in Oak Island, partake in various Beach Day and Youth Activities, including cornhole, bocce ball, and volleyball tournaments at 46th Street SE & Beach Drive, or inflatable rides, food, contests, and more at Middleton Park Extension. Show off your artistic side in the Beach Day Sand Sculpture Contest, dance the evening away at the Shag Contest, and wrap up the day with the spectacular Town of Oak Island Anniversary Fireworks show at Oak Island Pier.

Sunday, July 2nd: Live Music, Food, Flotillas, Trick Horses, and Declarations

July 2nd promises a vibrant day in Southport with various music acts serenading the city and food lovers exploring the diverse fare at Franklin Square Park and Southport Waterfront Park.

However, the stars of the day are the Red, White & Blue Freedom Flotilla, offering a parade of patriotically adorned boats at the waterfront, and the mesmerizing Clicks of Confidence and Trick Horses show. As the day culminates, residents and visitors gather for a momentous Reading of The Declaration of Independence, echoing the resonating principles of freedom that make the celebrations truly meaningful.

Monday, July 3rd: A Day of Art, Food, Dance, and More

On July 3rd, the Independence Day spirit soars high as Southport and Oak Island continue to be brimming with celebratory fervor. The day starts on a playful note with Children's Games organized at the Southport Waterfront Park. 

Art enthusiasts can explore the Summer Regional Art Show at the Franklin Square Gallery. Franklin Square Park and Southport Waterfront Park become a paradise for food lovers, with various food concessions and food trucks lining up for visitors. 

As evening descends, the Waterfront Stage comes alive with Street Dance featuring the band ReSoul. Remember, these are just a few exciting activities happening throughout the day. So come on out and celebrate this grand day of patriotism with us!

Tuesday, July 4th: A Grand Salute to Independence

The 4th of July is another full day of Southport and Oak Island's Independence Day celebrations. Kick off the day with a delicious Pancake Breakfast at Trinity Methodist Church, and later that day, watch the Flag Raising Ceremony. 

Around 11 am in Southport, join in for the Fourth of July Festival Parade, and enjoy another day of food and entertainment options like the Food Truck Row at the Southport Waterfront Park. 

In the spirit of our forefathers, attend the reading of The Declaration of Independence at Fort Johnston Lawn at 1 pm. And then, at 5 pm, get ready to gaze up into the sky for the Uncle Sam Skydive shows at Oak Island Beachfront. As dusk falls around 9 pm, gather at the Southport Waterfront Park for a spectacular Fireworks show and listen to more live entertainment afterward at the Waterfront Stage.
